How long does it take to complete a VR or 360° project?

A 360° video is usually finished in 2 to 6 weeks, and a simple virtual reality simulation in 6 to 12 weeks. Interactive simulations take 2 to 4 months, complex VR projects at least 3 months.
How long a VR or 360° project takes depends heavily on its content, so it is hard to give a general answer. From experience, though, we can give average figures that we use for our own rough planning:
- 360° videos: Simple productions usually take 2 to 6 weeks. This includes planning, filming and post-production. More elaborate productions with several shooting days or special effects can take correspondingly longer. However, a 360° video production of the kind companies commission usually never takes longer than 8 weeks.
- Simple VR projects: For simple interactive VR simulations, we plan on 6 to 12 weeks of development time. A virtual reality simulation of this size could be a small game, for example, that takes three to five minutes to play and is used at trade shows.
- Medium-sized VR projects: A project of this size could be a product presentation, for example: a machine is recreated virtually and given a few functions so that its operation can be demonstrated. Applications like these are used at trade shows, in sales meetings or for training. We roughly estimate 2 to 4 months of development time for these.
- Complex VR projects: For larger simulations, such as an elaborate training application or a very extensive product presentation, we estimate a project duration of at least 3 months. We have also had development periods of a year or more, but they are rare. In such cases, we recommend dividing the project into several phases of about 4 to 6 months and completing them one after another.
As a general rule, the more interactive and complex the project, the more time is needed for development, testing and adjustments.
