VR Showroom with 360° Video for RWE
For RWE, we filmed the trading floor in Essen, which is closed to visitors, in 360° and embedded it in a VR showroom for recruiting, onboarding, and tours.

Using 360° video to show what normally stays hidden
The RWE trading floor is the heart of the company. From here, energy worth many millions is traded around the world. Accordingly, the area is tightly secured, and strict requirements apply to anyone who wants to enter the floor. For visitors, the entrance door is usually as far as they get. But this is the most important and most interesting area at the Essen site. That is why RWE commissioned us to film it in 360°. We planned in advance exactly what could and could not be shown, because the highly sensitive data on the monitors must not appear in the footage. That is quite a challenge with 360° video.

Conveying company values in a VR showroom
The 360° video is embedded in a Virtual Reality app. The app is a VR showroom that users move through, learning about RWE as a company, its locations around the world, and career opportunities in different areas. The interactive part is deliberately playful: gamification keeps the application entertaining and makes the experience memorable.

Three uses for the VR app
We loaded the app onto numerous VR headsets for RWE and distributed them to all of its locations worldwide. RWE uses the VR headsets for three purposes:
- Recruitment: At trade shows and events, people interested in an apprenticeship or a job change can learn about the company, see their future workplace in the 360° video, and meet their potential colleagues.
- Onboarding: When new colleagues join the company, the VR experience welcomes them and gets them in the right frame of mind on their first day. It also gives them an initial tour of the building and the work areas right away.
- Visitor tours: Groups of visitors regularly come to the Essen site and are shown around the campus. Previously, guests could only look into the trading floor through a window. Today, they can get a guided tour by putting on the VR headset.

A special feature: accessibility in VR
RWE places great importance on inclusion and accessibility. That is why we met with RWE’s inclusion officer before the project started to discuss how to make the VR project usable for everyone. The VR app provides a transcript for all spoken text. And the controls were designed so that people with limited mobility can also use the VR app without any problems.
