Amprion

Virtual Showroom for Hybrid Events

For Amprion, we developed virtual showrooms with 3D animations and 360° tours. They inform residents about construction projects, first online and now in hybrid formats.

Amprion, one of Germany’s major transmission system operators (the companies that run the high-voltage grid), is responsible for operating and expanding the German power grid safely and efficiently. A key part of this work is keeping local residents fully informed about planned construction projects. Amprion usually meets this obligation through in-person information events, where the people affected get detailed insight into the projects and the technology behind them. But the COVID-19 pandemic brought new challenges for Amprion, too: suddenly, public events could no longer be held as usual.

Virtual showrooms as a solution in the crisis

During the pandemic, Amprion worked with VRtual X to develop an innovative alternative to physical events: virtual showrooms. This solution let residents navigate interactively through a virtual information event from home. In these showrooms, they could learn more about the planned sections of the route, the technologies used, and the projects’ environmental impact. It was a complete success: interested residents were not only fully informed but could also move through the virtual rooms at their own pace.

The benefits of the hybrid solution

Once the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, physical events were possible again, but Amprion decided to keep the virtual component. The showrooms offer many advantages that in-person events cannot match. They allow detailed visualization of the construction projects and give visitors additional sources of information such as 3D animations, simulations, and 360° panoramic tours. Plenty of downloadable material is also available, so interested people can learn everything they want to know whenever they like.

The hybrid format became the long-term solution: at its new events, Amprion combines in-person and virtual components. For example, computers and tablets are set up at the events so that visitors can access the virtual showroom on site. This way, they can enjoy the real exhibits and talk directly with the experts, and also explore the digital content interactively. People can also access the showroom from home and get information conveniently and flexibly.

A lasting example of digital transformation

The Amprion project is an impressive example of how a crisis can drive digital innovation. What was first meant as a stopgap during the pandemic has become a permanent, future-proof solution that enriches hybrid events. The interactive showrooms not only offer a sustainable, modern way to share information but also save resources, because they can be used from anywhere and no travel is required.

With the virtual showrooms, Amprion has built a bridge between the physical and digital worlds, and the positive response shows that this is the right approach. Digitalization not only opens up new possibilities in communication but also creates real added value for everyone involved.

Technology that impresses

VRtual X integrated state-of-the-art 3D animations, simulations, and 360° panoramic tours into the virtual rooms. Visitors can explore this content intuitively and interactively. For Amprion and the visitors, it is a fascinating experience, because they can truly immerse themselves in the construction projects. Hybrid events like these combine the best of both worlds: personal interaction on site and the unlimited possibilities of digital visualization.

Conclusion: an example for the future of hybrid events

The Amprion project is a prime example of how virtual content, combined with real events, can be used over the long term to inform people effectively and make complex topics easy to understand. For you, this means that the future lies in hybrid formats that bring physical and virtual spaces together. These events are flexible and sustainable, and they give your visitors an intense, modern experience.
